Product Description

When fighting Varroa mites, MYTH-BEE provides an organic bee mite control solution: oxalic acid dihydrate powder. Trusted by hobbyists and commercial beekeepers, this clear crystal formula effectively controls phoretic mites. These are the mites roaming on adult bees.

How MYTH-BEE Works:

The exact mechanism remains a mystery. The dominant research suggests oxalic acid enters mites via their feet. Then, it moves into their bloodstream, causing fatal metabolic disruption. Bees, by contrast, tolerate oxalic acid well, as long as you follow the right steps and avoid overuse.

When to Apply MYTH-BEE:

● Winter & Early Spring: It's the best time to treat Varroa mites because up to 95% of them are in the phoretic stage.

● Summer Considerations: Only 15–20% of mites are on adult bees under capped brood. You can still use MYTH-BEE to reduce the number of mites, but the general efficacy may be lower. You have to think about changing the type of treatments.

Dosage & Application Methods:

A. Trickling Method

1. Oxalic acid solution is corrosive. We'd better wear a mask, gloves, and goggles to prevent contact with skin and eyes.

2. Prepare a sucrose solution with sucrose and water in a 1:1 (w/w) ratio. Add 21 g of oxalic acid for every 500 g of syrup solution.

3. Using a syringe, apply 5 ml per frame (up to 50 ml per hive) along the top bars of each frame.

B. Vaporization Method

1. The dust or vaporised oxalic acid can irritate and damage human respiratory tract. Please remember to wear a mask, gloves, and goggles.

2. Place 2.3 g of oxalic acid in your electric vaporizer and position it under the hive entrance.

3. Operate the vaporizer according to instructions for about 3 minutes, then seal the hive for 15 minutes.

Frequency of Administration

A single oxalic acid treatment during a broodless period can effectively reduce mite populations.

When the capped brood is present, we can still use MYTH-BEE oxalic acid. A common approach is to treat every 4-6 days for 4-5 applications.

Precautions & Best Practices:

1. You can apply the vaporization treatment without opening the hive, which is particularly important in cold winter temperatures.

2. After you use other chemical miticides for treatment, some bee mites remain. This helps to vary your treatment methods.

3. Long-term single use of oxalic acid treatment will also generate resistance. Please alternate using different miticides.

4. When you need to treat mites during the honey flow period, temporarily remove honey supers for 1-2 days. However, there is now plenty of data that oxalic acid treatment does not taint the honey

5. Store in a cool, well-ventilated, dry place, and keep out of the reach of children and animals.
